Very few post-metal bands are as experimental as Inter Arma. This american act manages to bring together influences from almost all extreme metal subgenres to create something unique, and even though this speech has been applied to a huge variety of unimaginative bands, here we can say, free of all pretension, that Inter Arma is really an unique band. They've been getting more aclaim, by critics and fans, since the release of "Paradise Gallows" in 2016, but it's a shame that they're still criminally underrated. "Inter Arma" is latin for "in times of war"
The band was formed in 2006, and consists of vocalist Mike Paparo. guitarists Steven Russell and Trey Dalton, bassist Joe Kerkes and drummer T.J. Childers. This line-up hasn't suffered any changes since their formation.
Inter Arma mixes together elements of Black, Doom, Sludge and Death metal into a single massive force. They use Neurosis-like riffs with a doom metal atmosphere, everything using a basis of southern influence that permeates all of their work. Their albums are filled not only with the visceral crushing post metal attitude the reader is probably used to, as they can create more varied soundscapes with psychedelic elements in short light interludes between heavy headbanging anthems.
Their masterpiece is, undoubtedly, "Paradise Gallows". Even though it's arguably their least heavy, It goes just as heavy as post metal classics such as Neurosis' "Through Silver In Blood". Their early works feature less of the progressive elements from their last album, being much harsher. "The Cavern" is composed of a single 45-minute epic.
