Godflesh - Discography

Godflesh, originally named Fall of Because, is an experimental band formed in '82 in Birmingham, England. Their sound is marked by intense industrial influences, with an electronic vibe being introduced later in "Us and Them". The band was dissolved in 2002 but returned to work in 2010, after a reunion for the Hellfest festival.

Godflesh's line-up consists of two members: vocalist and guitarist Justin Broadrick and bassist G. C. Green. Their first three studio releases featured digital drumming, while in '96 drummer Bryan Mantia entered the band and recorded "Songs of Love and Hate". He exit the band in '97 and was replaced by Ted Parsons, who stayed until the breakup in 2002. Only the first two members reunited the band in 2010.

Their sound is marked by the use of drum machines along with a powerful bass and screaming guitars, alike to the industrial metal movement they helped create. They use common artifices in extreme metal such as the slow tempo and a repetitive rhythm, something they can handle very well in combination with the chaotic and eerie instrumentation that characterizes the band.

The debut EP and Streetcleaner are post metal classics and should be the listener's starting point. Personally, i like Streetcleaner a lot more than the selftitled EP but both receive more or less the same attention, so it's up to the listener's taste. Us and Them and Hymns are more electronic, while the latter still maintains Godflesh's roots, and the stuff released post hiatus are akin to their first albums.
